BESPORT / Connected equipment

From individual machines to a connected cargo operation.

BESPORT industrial project

Problem

Cargo handling equipment, terminal systems and logistics data lived in separate systems — and mixed fleets spoke different data languages.

What IOXIO did

IOXIO harmonised multi-OEM machine data, connected terminal, cargo, maritime and energy data, built the industrial data-sharing architecture and integrations, and ran the digital freight corridor in a real port environment.

IOXIO connected machines to the work they were actually doing — and then connected that operation to the wider logistics chain.

What it enabled

Digital machine identities · operational visibility · dynamic charging · CV/AI data capture concepts · corridor optimisation · new digital service concepts

Machine → task → cargo → terminal → vessel

01

One data layer across a mixed fleet

IOXIO connected and harmonised operational data from six machine types across five OEMs into common data products — giving the operation one usable data layer instead of manufacturer-specific silos.

02

Proven industrial data sharing

IOXIO.io provided the data-sharing backbone across machine, terminal/TOS/ERP, maritime, energy and weather data. IOXIO designed the integrations and technical environment, not only the architecture.

03

Machine connected to work

Machine state became more useful when connected to the cargo or task, location, vessel timing, energy and operational events around it. IOXIO also built a web UI prototype that brought this multi-OEM and operational context into one working view.

04

Live digital freight corridor

The Junnikkala → Port of Oulu corridor connected origin, road transport, terminal, machines, cargo and maritime context. It was live piloted with more than 2,000 consignments and real operational data.

05

Identity for every machine

IOXIO built a working DPP prototype for electric cargo-handling equipment and explored how physical machine identity can provide digital service access across new, legacy and third-party equipment.

06

Operational context for charging

Optimise charging from operational context, not battery state alone. Cargo and terminal volumes, vessel ETA, electricity price and machine charge state were connected so charging could be aligned with upcoming work.

07

Legacy equipment and CV/AI R&D

IOXIO researched telemetry alternatives for older and third-party equipment. With partners, it developed and validated a data-sharing architecture for camera-derived machine and cargo events that shares useful event data without exposing raw video.

08

From R&D to service concepts

The work produced three business concept directions: Data Ready Machines, Intelligent Cargo Handling Area and Corridor Connected Fleet. Data Ready Machines builds on real multi-OEM validation; the other concepts remain at research and concept maturity, with further pilot work planned.

The Oulu multi-OEM data sharing and digital freight corridor were live piloted with real operational data. The Intelligent Cargo Handling Area was a developed and validated concept, not a production deployment.
